DESCRIPTION

Haemophilia is one of the most common rare diseases, causing bleedings and haemorrhages related to an inherited or acquired deficiency of coagulative factors. Once associated with high rates of mortality and morbidity, it has become less dangerous in the last two decades, thanks to the diffusion of the modem haematological prophylaxis, based on a periodic administration of recombinant clotting factor concentrates. In the very last years, the extension of the pool of professionals involved in the management of this disease and the further progresses on the bleeding-preventing control strategy have finally improved patients' quality of life: they now have a life expectation similar to the non-haemorrhagic population. This textbook represents an updated overview on all modem aspects related to Haemophilia, focusing on new therapeutic and surgical horizons, and on the multidisciplinary management of its musculoskeletal complications.
