Clinical presentation and treatment of secondary venous occlusive disease of the thorax

Central venous obstruction that involves the superior vena cava and/or its major tributaries is most commonly associated with secondary etiologies including neoplasm, mediastinal fibrosis, trauma, or neointimal hyperplasia caused by indwelling endovascular devices. This article discusses the pathogenesis and clinical presentation of secondary venous occlusive disease of the thorax, with a focus on the treatment procedures currently available.
