Venous thoracic outlet syndrome involves compression in the costoclavicular space and thrombosis of the subclavian vein inside a triangle bordered by the first rib, clavicle and the costoclavicular ligament. An understanding of the anatomical relationships and hemodynamics of this condition as well as appropriate imaging techniques is important for the proper diagnosis and treatment of this relatively rare syndrome. This article provides a concise, up-to-date review of venous thoracic outlet syndrome including its presentation, diagnosis, treatment options and a summary of current reporting standards.
