Fundamentals and results of total aortic arch replacement

Surgical outcome of total aortic arch replacement has dramatically improved over the recent years. Sophisticated methods of neuroprotection and routine use of moderate hypothermia have substantially contributed to this achievement. Debranching hybrid techniques have been proposed as an alternative treatment for high-risk patients presenting with aortic arch aneurysms, thus, contemporary open arch repair needs to be reassessed as a benchmark for consideration of the optimal therapeutic strategy.
