Embolic protection devices for TEVAR and TAVR

Marissa FAMULARO, Francis J. CAPUTO

Department of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery, Cooper University Hospital, Camden, NJ, USA

PDF

With periprocedural stroke risks reported between 2% and 4.5%, both TAVR and TEVAR are high-risk procedures for neurologic complications. The majority of clinically significant neurologic events are embolic in nature, and nearly all patients undergoing these procedures experience silent embolic events. Embolic protection devices strive to decrease the risk of both silent emboli and clinically significant neurologic events during TEVAR and TAVR.
