Update on available stents for ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysms

Endovascular repair (EVR), has now become a well established technique in the repair of suitable abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA). This is mainly due to positive results from large randomised controlled trials showing huge benefits. Although management of ruptured AAA is more challenging many have questioned whether the benefits of EVR seen in elective surgery can be reciprocated. This article reviews the latest literature and looks at the evidence for EVR in the elective and emergency setting, and identifies the pros and cons of using EVR for ruptured AAA.
