Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has become a rapid worldwide pandemic. Although RT-PCR remains the reference for the diagnosis of COVID-19, imaging plays a key role in the management of infected patients. Nevertheless there is no clear consensus on imaging role within the major Professional Scientific Societies, the main role of imaging in COVID-19 outbreak is to identify the presence pneumonia, provide differential diagnosis, monitor changes of pneumonia and plays a role in prognostic assessment and patient stratification. In this pandemic, identifying and recognizing typical imaging findings is critical to patient management and to avoid further spread of the infection. The imaging findings commonly observed are the expression of interstitial lung damage. One of the most specific features of COVID-19 pneumonia is the high frequency of peripheral and bilateral lung involvement. Peripheral lung opacities also tend to be multifocal, either patchy or confluent, and can be readily identified whit imaging modalities. The most interesting role of imaging is the prognostic assessment and patient stratification in COVID-19 pneumonia and CXR and CT scoring systems have been recently developed. Our aim was to explains the findings, the value and roles of different imaging modalities for the diagnosis and management of COVID-19.
