An unusual case of frontal lobe hemorrhage associated with cannabis abuse
Udayan BHAUMIK, Hemendra SINGH ✉
Department of Psychiatry, Ramaiah Medical College, Bangalore, India
Regularly smoking cannabis has been found to have several neurological complications with both ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke being reported. The exact mechanism for these is unknown, though several have been proposed. Here we describe a young adult male with chronic tobacco and cannabis abuse to develop a hemorrhage of the frontal lobe which presented as sudden onset of headache after admission to the hospital. Other major risk factors for the hemorrhage were ruled out. Our case emphasizes the importance of detailed neurological evaluation in all patients reporting substance abuse to avoid potential neurological complications which may be severe and life-threatening.
