AIM: Finding the optimal treatment in the management of scaphoid fractures is a priority, in order to reduce long recovery time, complications, and high social costs.
METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed 17 patients treated with the Acutrak screw and 14 patients with the Twin Fix screw for acute scaphoid fractures. Subjective tests, ROM, radiographs, and strength at the dynamometer were evaluated for both groups.
RESULTS: The mean follow up was 3 years (1-5 years), while the age was 29 years (16 to 56). The only significant difference was noted in the subjective scores in favor of the Acutrak screw.
CONCLUSION: The superiority of one device over the other in the treatment of acute scaphoid fractures could not be stated.
