Dual mobility and constrained liners have changed the prevention and the treatment of THA dislocations
Hernigou P., Picard L., Pariat J., Alves A., Desroches A. ✉
Department of Orthopedic Surgery University Paris East Henri Mondor Hospital, Creteil, France
This review is a practical paper about the indications of treatment of total hip arthroplasty dislocations. It describes two new forms of implants destined to the treatment of this problem, constrained liners and dual mobility, and answers the questions often asked by orthopedic surgeons about respective indications of each one. In addition to the usual fundamental research articles and reports of clinical studies that make up a review of this kind, the authors also describe the indications of these implants in prevention of dislocation for primary arthropasties. This review describes the historical debate about dislocations, identifies the epidemiology and frequency of dislocation and describes the two new devices dual mobility and constrained or retentive liner proposed to resolve these problems. The authors also discuss the indication of these new devices to prevent or treat dislocations.
