INTRODUCTION: The aim of this study was to determine the role of Prognostic Nutritional Index in predicting gastric cancer.
EVIDENCE ACQUISITION: Studies were searched in PubMed, EMBASE and ISI Web of Science. The hazard ratios and 95% confidence interval for survival estimate were extracted from the articles and the pooled HR was computed.
EVIDENCE SYNTHESIS: Nine studies with 3203 participants met the inclusion criteria. Low PNI was associated with poor overall survival (pooled HR 1.92, 95% CI: 1.68-2.19).
CONCLUSIONS: Prognostic Nutritional Index was an effective indicator for the prognosis of gastric cancer.
