Vanilla planifolia is an economically important orchid that has been cultivated for its flavoring pods. Though it is propagated using stem cuttings, this method is labour-intensive, time consuming and not economically viable. With the increasing demand for Vanilla vines, there is a need to search for an alternative way to mass produce this plant species. In recent years, the propagation using tissue culture techniques has shown advantages compared with conventional methods. Therefore, we endeavour to provide an update on the recent propagation aspect of V. planifolia.
