Development of reliable and eco-friendly processes for synthesis of metallic nanoparticles is an important step in the field of application of nanotechnology. One of the options to achieve this objective is to use natural factories such as biological systems. in this study, we have investigated the synthesis of nanoparticles of gold by reduction of aqueous au3+ ions with the culture supernatant of escherichia coli (dh5α). uv–visible spectrum of the aqueous medium containing gold ion showed a peak at 540 nm corresponding to the plasmon absorbance of gold nanoparticles. the morphology of nanoparticles was observed using tem (transmission electron microscopy). the size of the nanoparticles was determined applying dynamic light scattering (DLS). The process of reduction is extracellular, which makes it an easier method for the synthesis of gold nanoparticles.
