Exfoliation glaucoma and primary open angle glaucoma: a comparison via oct-angiography

Optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) is a new noninvasive technique used for imaging of the retinal and the choroidal capillaries. It has been extensively used for the study of retinal diseases, as well as optic neuropathies such as glaucoma, which, if left untreated, results in optic nerve damage and visual field loss. Since OCTA provides more precise and quantitative information on the retinal vasculature, compared to standard angiography techniques, it has been used for the study of various glaucoma types, such as the primary open angle glaucoma, which is the most common type of glaucoma worldwide and the exfoliation glaucoma, a very aggressive type of open angle glaucoma, caused by the exfoliation syndrome. By studying these cases via OCTA, we obtain useful information, concerning the pathophysiology, the progression rate and the treatment for each type of glaucoma.
