Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic autoimmune disease that has a variable clinical presentation, disease course, and prognosis. In SLE, any of the various layers of the eye could be targeted by inflammation, ranging from mild manifestations with a low sight-threatening risk, like keratoconjunctivitis sicca, to serious ones like retinal vasculitis or optic neuritis that could lead to irreversible visual loss
