Spontaneous infraorbital hemorrhage in pregnant patient: a case report

The infraorbital hemorrhage is a rare clinical entity in ophthalmology practice. It is caused by orbital trauma, or by different clinical condition as vascular lesions, neoplasm, infection and systemic abnormalities. We report the case of a 36-year-old woman with good general health, no allergies, 25 weeks pregnant, who never underwent surgery and who developed diplopia after violent retching. Neuroimaging showed an infraorbital hematoma, we decided to observe the clinical course, and after three weeks the hematoma reabsorbed and the diplopia disappeared. The infraorbital bleeding can occur at any age, generally in response to an increase in venous pressure. The clinical and radiological assessment are necessary for the best approach. If there are no optic nerve alterations or visual acuity impairment, it is possible to maintain a conservative approach and observe the clinical evolution. Often it resolves spontaneously without significant sequelae.
