Surgical removal of maxillary impacted canines: what approach technique for what anatomic situation?

Bruno S. AFFOKPON , Bouchra TALEB

Department of Oral Surgery, Faculty of Dental Medicine, Mohammed V University in Rabat, Rabat, Morocco

Maxillary canines impaction is common in oral surgery. Therefore, in a case of included canines, many reflections are necessary for the proper care. Sometimes, the necessary therapies can be either orthodontic placement or surgical removal. When the indication of extraction is asked, several techniques can be used depending on the anatomical situation and the degree of depth of the canine impacted. This decision is agreed with the orthodontist and the patient. In this paper, theories regarding the etiology and diagnosis of included canines in adult dentition, as well as surgical removal modalities will be examined about three case reports of impacted canines, which need surgical removal.
