Dengue virus infections in the first six months of 2018 in Surabaya, Indonesia

BACKGROUND: Since 1968 dengue virus infection has been found in several cities in Indonesia, especially Surabaya and Jakarta, this event occurs due to the changing of the hot weather to rainy season. It can cause an outbreak of dengue virus infection. The severity cases are very difficult to help and to prevent. Based on this event, the clinical manifestation of dengue virus infection should be studied.
METHODS: Method of studied on diagnosis of dengue virus infection with using WHO criteria 2009. The study had been done in all cases Dengue Virus Infection who had been cared in Mother and Child Health of SOERYA Hospital Sepanjang, Indonesia, since January 1/June 30, 2018. Focusing this study evaluation all the cases of dengue virus infection, the diagnosis of cases was based on WHO 2009.
RESULTS: The result found Dengue Shock Syndrome 2 cases; Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever 10 cases and 32 cases of Dengue Fever. Beside it the hospital doctor found 22 cases were infected secondary infection of Salmonella. Until now spectrum of clinical illness dengue virus infection from an asymptomatic or mild febrile illness to classical dengue fever (DF) and then to the most severe illness for example dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) are always found in Indonesia town. The virus isolation rate was only (4.5%: 1/22) from all patient sera, serotyping showed the presence of DENV-3 serotypes.
CONCLUSIONS: To prevent the outbreak of dengue hemorrhagic fever the Health Center doctor should give health education to community for decreasing Aedes aegeypti Mosquito around their houses. Therefore, health education about dengue virus infection should always done to all community for understanding to prevent this disease.
