Hysteroscopy is the gold standard for the diagnosis and treatment of endometrial lesions. Infection following hysteroscopic surgery is uncommon and has been estimated to be occurred in 0.18-1.50% of cases. Although prophylactic antibiotics are given following hysteroscopic surgery, the recommendation is not strongly suggested for all cases. At present, rarely pelvic infections such as tubo-ovarian abscesses (TOA), have been reported following this procedure. We present a case of bilateral TOA leading to septic shock following diagnostic hysteroscopy as a rare detrimental complication.
