Results of application of mechatronic device in the training process of 11-15-year-old ski racers

South Ural State University, Chelyabinsk, Russia

BACKGROUND: At the present day, most teachers and specialists in biomechanics believe that at the moment of formation of complex-coordination actions it is extremely difficult to master them so that further retraining and correction of mistakes are not necessary. Such conditions are created due to extensive use of mechanical devices - exercise machines, complex control stands, and other accessory equipment. One of the variants of realization of method for complex-coordination movement construction is application of mechatronic systems. The objective of the research was to test the method for application of the mechatronic device for training young skiers in proper movement technique.
METHODS: 18 ski racers (at the age of 11-15) were recruited as participants and divided into two equal groups - experimental and control. Training sessions in the experimental group involved specific exercises with the specially designed mechatronic device. The control group kept on training in accordance with traditional methods. The primary stage of training sessions were dedicated to testing and analysis of special physical fitness, video recording of ski techniques, and evaluation of specific endurance in 5km ski race.
RESULTS: Comparison of sport performance on the contest distance revealed that at the beginning of the experiment 5km ski race finish time in the experimental (16.59 min) and control (16.41 min) groups differed insignificantly (18 s; P>0.05), but in the middle of the experiment the difference increased up to 1 min 21 s, and at the end of the research - up to 2 min 1 s. The examination with the help of Biodex Systems 4 PRO diagnostic complex revealed that muscle strength in specific movements necessary for classic ski techniques tended to grow. The results of video analysis showed that the path length in phases 1 and 3 significantly increased and at the same time decreased in phases 2 and 4.
CONCLUSIONS: Positive changes in the structure of movements of the studied ski techniques and in the development of speed and speed-strength characteristics allow the efficient realization of the motor potential accumulated during the experiment, improving the participants’ sport performance. The results are especially significant in the experimental group, which proves that the mechatronic device is able to effectively adjust the structure of motor actions.
