BACKGROUND: Penile fracture is defined as rupture of corpus cavernosum of the penis during erection that its recovery requires surgical operation. In this research the causes and consequences of penile fracture were studied.
METHODS: In this cross-sectional study, 67 men with penile fracture from April 2013 to October 2015 referred to Hamadan Shahid Beheshti hospital and had undergone surgery were followed-up for one year after surgery and assessed for age, clinical symptoms, cause, location of the fracture and surgical outcomes.
RESULTS: The patients mean age was 39.36, minimum 22 and maximum 72 years old. All patients with symptoms of pain, swelling and hematoma referred. The common cause of penile fracture was due to intercourse. Regarding postoperative complications, nodules (2.98%), erectile difficulties (2.98%) reported but no cases of hematoma, bleeding, urethral injuries and surgical infections after surgery.
CONCLUSIONS: Quick and correct repair of penile fracture with postoperative care and education increases the success of the surgical operation and prevents complications.
