AS is the most common and most typical form of SpA. AS usually begins with back pain and stiffness at a young age but various presentations. Late onset after the age of 45 is uncommon for AS. Gout disease is usually characterized by recurrent attacks of inflammatory arthritis. The metatarsal-phalangeal joint at the base of the big toe that is affected most often, accounting for half of cases.
