Correlation of the parameters of Senior Fitness Test and Bosco Test in older adults

BACKGROUND: Functional parameters are important indicators of mobility among the older adults. The aims of this study were: 1) to correlate results from the Senior Adult Fitness Tests (SFT) to results from two jump tests squat jump (SJ) and the countermovement jump (CMJ); 2) to correlate body protocol, heart rates, and blood pressure results to the two jump tests and SFT.
METHODS: The sample consisted of 83 people (aged 60 to 83 years), 17 men and 66 women who participated in a mild exercise program.
RESULTS: There were only significant correlations between CMJ flight time and the SFT 30-second chair stand (r=0.212). As for body composition, CMJ correlates with weight (r=0.382), muscles (r=0.351), BMkcal (r=0.358) and BMI (r=0.294) while SJ correlates with the muscle mass (r=0.517), height (r=0.216), weight (r=0.502), BMI (r=0.432) and BMkcal (r=0.511). There were statistically significant correlations between the 30-Second Chair Stand exercise and weight (r=-210), between arm curl and BMI (r=0.223), between the 2-minute Step Test and height (r=0.250), fat (r=-243), water (r=0.260), muscle (r=0.225), bones (r=0.389). The Chair Sit-and-Reach Test with height (r=-225), muscles (r=-266), weight (r=-248) and BMKcal (r=-249). Exercise back scratch and fat (r=-266), water (r=0.271), muscle (r=-300), weight (r=-408) and BMKcal (r=-330) 8 foot up & go exercise with height (r=0.227).
CONCLUSIONS: The Bosco test and the SFT are two different recording tests of the functional parameters because only CMJ time fly correlates with 30s second chair stand (SFT) which is a test of strength’s lower limp. Body composition was significant correlated with flexibility and strength as measured in the SFT.
