Angiomyofibroblastoma of the vulva: a case report
Isadora ALVES RUAS, Fernanda MACHADO DE MATTOS, Luciene LAJE DA MOTTA, Antônio CHAMBÔ FILHO
Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Santa Casa de Misericórdia, Vitória, Espírito Santo, Brazil
Angiomyofibroblastoma is a rare, benign tumor of mesenchymal origin, found principally in the vulva. It is slow growing and painless, well circumscribed and movable. Although it is more common in middle age, it can affect women from menarche to menopause. Immunohistochemically, these tumors are reactive for desmin, vimentin, estrogen receptors, CD34 and smooth muscle actin. This case report aims to highlight the condition, providing further information to aid the physician in diagnosing, treating and differentiating this tumor from other pathologies of the vulva with different degrees of aggressiveness, permitting treatment to be, whenever possible, less mutilating.
