Extensive central venous reconstruction in acute postcardiotomy superior vena cava obstruction syndrome: a case report

Superior vena cava syndrome is a result from the compression or occlusion of superior vena cava and most often due to malignant disease, or nonmalignant causes such as indwelling central venous catheterization and pacemaker placement. Various therapeutic options are available according to the underlying cause, and endovascular modalities and direct surgical reconstruction are the two main options for treatment. Herein, we describe a rare case of acute superior vena cava syndrome after cardiac surgery that repaired by extensive central venous reconstruction using CorMatrix patch and cryopreserved saphenous spiral vein allograft.
