Hypernatremia is a frequently seen electrolyte disorder which is associated with long hospitalization time and death. The sensation of intense thirst may be absent or reduced in patients with altered mental status or with hypothalamic lesions affecting their sense of thirst and in elderly people. In the literature, patients admitted with sodium level higher than 190 mmol/L and successfully treated are limited. We present a case of a elderly patient with serum sodium level greater than 193 mmol/l and successfully treated with hypotonic solution.
