AIM: The aim of this study was to assess the relationship between scapulothoracic function, impingement, and ultrasonographic parameters in swimmers’ shoulders.
METHODS: We performed physical and ultrasonographic examinations of 44 shoulders in 22 swimmers. We then divided the participants into 3 groups, scapulothoracic good condition (SGC) group, scapulothoracic poor condition (SPC) group, and shoulder impingement (SIM) group according to the results of scapulothoracic functional examinations and impingement test. Dynamic ultrasonographic examinations were performed to measure the displacement of the coracoacromial ligament using motion mode.

CONCLUSION: Dynamic ultrasonographical examination using motion-mode may be useful for the visual image assessment of the scapulothoracic function.
