Surgical excision of simultaneous high-grade glioma and adjacent meningioma

Mohamed K. ELBADAWY , Mahmoud M. TAHA

Department of Neurosurgery, University of Zagazig, Zagazig, Egypt

The occurrence of more than one primary brain tumor simultaneously in the same patient is rare, here we present a case of adjacent double tumor. A 55-year-old female patient presented with left side weakness and generalized tonic-clonic seizures. MRI brain with contrast revealed two adjacent separate lesions, the first lesion is right insular intra-axial ring enhanced lesion with peri-focal edema, the second is extra-axial homogenously enhanced lesion, based on the dura of the right sphenoid wing. Patient operated with gross total excision of the intra-axial lesion using intraoperative sodium fluorescein and gross total excision of the adjacent extra-axial lesion. Histopathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of Grade IV high grade glioma and Grade I meningioma.
