Successful surgical repair of rapid growth infected mitral annular aneurysm caused by methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus

As the infected mitral annular aneurysm is an infrequent finding but a quite formidable condition, it requires prompt diagnosis and proper treatment without delay. This manuscript describes a mitral annular aneurysm caused by methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus endocarditis which grew rapidly despite effective rigorous antibiotics. At an emergent operation, radical debridement of the aneurysm and abscess resulted in a partial dehiscence of the left ventricle and left atrium. This was repaired successfully with a bovine pericardial felt strip followed by bio-prosthetic mitral valve replacement. Repeat imaging modality could detect the disease and provide the information to the surgeons. The serious infected mitral annular aneurysm was successfully repaired with a bovine pericardial felt strip.
