Bicondylar fracture in class III malocclusion: correction of the prognathism and TMJ dysfunction with a particular therapeutic strategy

Temporomandibular joint disorders, better known as TMJ, are very common clinical conditions and can result in severe impairment in the patient’s quality of life. There are many conventional techniques to solve these conditions. This article presents the case report of a patient affected by class III malocclusion and left TMJ dysfunction, previously treated for mandibular bicondylar and parasimphysis fracture, as a result of trauma due to accidental fall. The patient reported disappearance of TMJ pain with a subjective improvement of facial esthetics and resolution of the class III malocclusion, after the functional treatment. In this paper the non-standard strategy that has made such resolution possible is presented.
