The role of telemedicine in maxillo-facial trauma
Mastellone P., Micali G., Torres S., Catalfamo L., Romano F., De Ponte F. S.
U.O.S. di Chirurgia Maxillo-Facciale, Policlinico Universitario “G. Martino” di Messina, Messina, Italy
In this work based on the role of telemedicine in ma- xillo-facial traumas the Authors focused however the necessity of a multicentricity for the study of trauma in sense of a multidisciplinarity – for the inner necessity of the trauma which often consists in a politrauma that requests more specialistic evaluations – and in the sense of logistically, due to the necessity for the geographic extension of the territory and due of the fact that the Maxillo-Facial Surgery is little extended in only two places in this region, sited one in Messina and another in Palermo. Here the necessity even in the small peripheral centers to ensure a first specialistic evaluation – at a distance and more immediate than a transfer – of the necessity of surgery or not of a case, and the possible degree of urgency (deferrable/not deferrable) of a surgical need, avoiding unnecessary transfers of patients or not already stabilized in acute. All in consideration of a reduction of time for intervention for the patient, and a reduction of the costs for assistance and of the health expenditure.
