For long time, surgical treatment for laryngeal cancer only included two procedures: cordectomy and total laryngectomy. The development of laryngeal anatomical knowledge, the description of different compartments, and the better understanding of cancer growth have allowed the rising of partial laryngectomies. The aforementioned techniques had to consider physiological data in order to preserve an adequate laryngeal function including respiration, phonation, and swallowing. The aim of this study was to analyze the anatomical and physiological data and specify the indications for partial laryngectomies with crico-hyoïdo-epiglottoplasty.
