Camilla DOSIO, Matteo BRUCOLI, Paolo BOFFANO , Arnaldo BENECH

Division of Maxillofacial Surgery, University of Eastern Piedmont, Novara, Italy

Lipoma is a benign tumor that is usually composed of mature adipocytes surrounded by a thin fibrous capsule. Of all the cases of lipoma, 15% to 20% involve the head and neck region and up to 4% involve the oral cavity. Although lipoma is a frequent neoplasm of the connective tissue, it is an unusual finding in the tongue. We present the clinical presentation, differential diagnosis, and treatment of an intramuscular lipoma of the tongue in a 63-year-old woman.
