INTRODUCTION: The aim of this article was to review the literature about the use of Le Fort I approach for the removal of paranasal sinuses or nasopharyngeal tumors and to present two cases of midface tumors treated by such approach.
EVIDENCE ACQUISITION: A systematic review of all papers regarding the removal of paranasal sinuses or nasopharyngeal tumors by Le Fort I approach was performed. Data were collected on year, number of patients, histological types of tumor, and complications of the included patients.
EVIDENCE SYNTHESIS: Fourteen articles were included, regarding a total of 60 patients that have undergone a LeFort I approach for the removal of a midface tumor. The most frequent tumor was nasopharyngeal angiofibroma (54 patients). Complications were rarely reported.
CONCLUSIONS: The Le Fort I approach seems to be an excellent option for the removal of selected midface neoplasms. Tumor recurrence is rare, as well as complications following such approach.
