Endoscopic treatment of idiopathic silent sinus syndrome: when atypical clinical presentation leads to early diagnosis
Dispenza F., Maira S., Bianchini S., Bennici E.
Ear, Nose and Throat Unit, San Giovanni di Dio ASP 1 Hospital, Agrigento
The silent sinus syndrome is an uncommon disease characterized by progressive enophtalmos with diplopia associated with omolateral hypoplasic maxillary sinus without facial and nasal complaints. Atypical presentation with prodromic symptoms as midfacial discomfort could lead the ENT specialist to an early diagnosis with CT scan and prompt surgical treatment, stopping the disease progression and prevent further surgical invasive treatment. We report an emblematic case.
