Pediatric voice disorders: diagnosis and treatment

It has been estimated that over one million children suffer from some form of dysphonia. It can be detrimental to children both psychologically and academically. Pediatric symptoms are similar to these in adults, yet these may be less noticeable to the patient and clinician, and a high index of suspicion is needed to diagnose. Understanding vocal function and the latest concepts in diagnosis and treatment is essential to providing optimal care of voice disorders in children. A multidisciplinary approach to the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric voice disorder is required.
