Management update of early glottic cancer in 2011

Harris L., Higgins K.

Section of Head and Neck Surgery, Department of Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, Toronto, Canada

PDF

This review highlights the current evidence base for the management of early glottic cancer. Recent results of a meta-analysis, systematic review, consecutive case series, and cost-utility studies are presented, with transoral laser (TOL) surgery and radiotherapy (XRT) as the two predominant treatment modalities. Between TOL surgery and XRT, evidence demonstrates similar oncologic, voice, and quality of life outcomes, with TOL surgery offering the advantage of reduced health care costs and shorter duration of treatment.
