AIM: Endoscopic septoplasty (ES) has become a wide employed surgical technique in the management of nasal septal deviation. Indication to perform such technique are differently reported in literature and no consensus exist about its utilize.
METHODS:We conducted a retrospective analysis of charts of patients treated by endoscopic sinus surgery in which an ES was performed. The surgical technique employed was described, including a personal technique, and our indications were discussed.
RESULTS:. In conclusion we believe that ES may have an important role in endoscopic sinus surgery to improve the surgical access. This technique is also a valuable teaching tool and improves the visualization of surgical details.
CONCLUSION: The traditional approach to the nasal septum must be preferred in case of major septal deviation.
