Allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis in an HIV-infected man: a long lasting manifestation of immune reconstitution?

Allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA) is an asthmatic syndrome in which Th2 CD4+ T cells play a major role. On the other hand CD4+ T cells are the main target of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). The authors report a case of ABPA occurring in an HIV-infected man in the years following highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART). They discuss the possible pathogenetic links between the immune reconstitution and the overt clinical manifestations of ABPA.
