Aims: The “Psicocardio” project is based on the fact that - once released - individuals who got an acute myocardial infarction attack (AMI) suffer anxiety and depression, with higher death rate. The project originates from a case study analyzing and comparing each other AMIs traumatic experiences by means of experiential and psycho-educational sessions (fortnightly sessions hold at Unit of Clinical Psychology Asl Na1 Center for a 9 months period, lasting 120 mins and involving 8 to 12 individuals) aiming to evaluate the psycho-behavior results after 1 year therapy.
Methods: Forty-five individuals were involved: 41 men and 4 women, being in between 30s and 70s years old, with an AMI experience occurred not later that 30 days before the first session. The case study led to ascertain the trend in anxiety levels (assessed with STAY-Y scale/method) of the individuals attending the experiential sessions and allowed to assess the different anxiety levels between the ones attending the whole course and the ones who left.
Results: The collected data show a significant anxiety level affecting the above mentioned individuals: this outcome confirms that the anxiety is a key factor for cardiologic diseases, both as risk factor (causing the neuro-vegetative status) and as result of the AMIs (causing a modification to psycho status).
Conclusion: The collected data lead to the conclusion that psycho-educational path is highly beneficial to individuals who got AMIs.
