Observations on extraosseus chondrosarcoma: a case report

Fadda M., Manunta A.

PDF

The chondrosarcoma deriving from soft tissues occurs very rarely. It is still unclear, as it happens for other skeletal chondrosarcomas, if it is possible to stage histologically the malignity which well correlates with prognosis and therapeutical strategy. The clinical, histological and developmental features are reported of a chondrosarcoma arised from the popliteal fossa of a woman aged 39, staged histologically as a grade 2 skeletal chondrosarcoma: the patient underwent a marginal excision and local post-surgical radiotherapy (for 5 weeks), and at present, either general (metastasis) or local recurrence are not observed. The follow-up at 13 years confirms the effectiveness of the treatment chosen.
