Intra-articular osteoid osteoma of the distal humerus. A diagnostic problem

Intra-articular localization of osteoid osteoma is unusual and late diagnosis often causes delayed treatment. A case of intra-articular osteoid osteoma of the distal humerus simulating a chronic monoarthritis of the elbow in a 13-year-old boy is presented. The clinical and radiological diagnostic problems are discussed with reference to the literature. The microscopic examination of the synovium showed a reactive synovitis. The symptoms quickly improved after accurate intralesional curettage of the nidus and the synovitis completely regressed in three weeks.
