Metadiaphyseal and diaphyseal high energy fractures with multidistrict leg involvement: treatment strategies

Peretti G., Maculan R., Dettoni A.

PDF

The treatment of metadiaphyseal or diaphyseal high energy leg fractures raises problems concerning the correct indications for treatment. In the authors' opinion, intramedullary fixation is the treatment that allows the best recovery with least effort for the patient and the best functional recovery. The authors report a series of 7 patients treated in whom intramedullary fixation was regarded as the method of first choice; drawbacks may include bleeding and the risk of adipose embolism.
