Intramedullary nailing in proximal humerus fractures: advangages and disadvantages

Management of displaced proximal humerus fractures is a challenge. Intramedullary nailing remains an appropriate fixation technique in selected patients, above all with surgical neck 2-part fractures or with extension into the proximal diaphysis. The balance between advantages and disadvantages increases in expert hands but especially with right precautions techniques. Pay attention to: the correct reduction of tuberosities, the rotator cuff footprint and preservation of the radial nerve.
