The outcome of meniscal repair in the athletic population with or without ACL reconstruction
Gabr A., Konan S., Haddad F. S. ✉
University College London Hospitals, London, UK
The menisci have different important functions in the knee including load bearing, shock absorption and stability. Meniscal tears are the most common injury of the knee. Historically, meniscal resection was the standard treatment for meniscal injuries. Meniscal preserving procedures have gained more popularity in the last two decades. Techniques of meniscal repair include the inside-out, outside-in and all-inside techniques. Various studies have reported on the outcome of meniscal repair when it is associated with concomitant anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction compared with meniscal repair in isolation. In this article, we review the outcome of isolated meniscal repair and concomitant ACL reconstruction and meniscal repair in the athletic population.
