Isolated displaced fracture of the body of the acromion: a case report
Gokce Z. V., Birinci B., Orcun Akkurt M., Ozkan H.
Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology, Lokman Hekim Hospital, Ankara, Turkey
Scapular fractures are uncommon and fractures of the acromion are very rare. Fractures of the acromion are usually combined with other lesions of the shoulder girdle. Isolated displaced fractures of the acromion are exceptional and most commonly occur through the base of the acromion. We believe this is the first published case of an isolated displaced fracture of the body of the acromion. This injury occurred in a 35-year-old right-handed man who injured his left shoulder during a home accident. The fracture was stabilized with open reduction and fixation with titanium cannulated compression screws. The clinical result two months after surgery was good, with return to daily activities. Further physical examination revealed a complete range of motion. The patient had no additional problems and regularly followed up in our outpatient clinic one year after surgery.
