Meniscus allograft transplantation

Meniscal allograft transplantation has become an accepted option for the treatment of symptomatic meniscal deficiency, for example after subtotal meniscectomy. The development of more advanced techniques and instruments has allowed an all-arthroscopic approach, reducing the morbidity associated with the original open procedure. Patients generally report excellent pain relief, but should be cautioned against returning to high-risk cutting sports such as soccer. Overall success rates of meniscal allograft transplantation are reported above 70% at more than 5 years. This article discusses the indications and technique for meniscal allograft transplantation.
