Revision shoulder arthroplasty is a technically demanding procedure even to the most experienced shoulder surgeons. With increasing numbers of primary shoulder arthroplasty, one can expect increased numbers of required revision surgery. Etiologies making revision shoulder arthroplasty necessary are often multifactorial and difficult to classify. A complete patient work up and careful radiographic assessment are mandatory to evaluate component wear, soft-tissue deficiencies, osseous deficiencies, and periprosthetic fractures. In addition, component infection must be ruled out. The purpose of this report is to review the complications of shoulder arthroplasty and provide a comprehensive and logical approach to revision surgery.
