Femural neck preservation between history and innovation

Aim. The aim of this study was to evaluate the role of femoral neck preservation in tissue sparing surgery and in total hip replacement surgery.
Methods. In last 2 years we implanted and we control with Harris hip score (HHS) 25 femoral neck reservation total hip prosthesis. In the study we also control blood loosening after surgery and mean hospitalisation time of the patient.
Results. At the follow-up we find a mean increasing of HHS of 48 points and 2 days was the mean reduction of the hospitalisation time.
Conclusions. Femoral neck preservation is certainly an innovation and it permits to maintain the bone stock and to respect the function of the joint. After our and other long-term study on this theme we think that the CFP–TOP system can be a good solution.
