Medium-long term outcome of pelvic ring injuries

Aim. The aim of this paper is to evaluate, with numerical scoring system, the medium-long term quality of life in patient with a traumatic pelvic ring injury.
Methods. We have reviewed 33 patients with unstable pelvic ring fracture. Patients were analyzed with a new evaluation scale.
Results. The average follow-up time is 14.5 months, the average age at the time of evaluation is 43.9 years. Only 9 of 33 (28%) patients have an excellent-rated functional score and quality of life; 72% of patient have an inferior muscle-skeletal functional score, 30% have an urinary dysfunction, 45% have sexual dysfunctions.
Conclusion. Pelvic ring injuries may negatively affect the quality of patient’s life. A multidisciplinary approach in acute care and during the follow-up period is fundamental to ensure the highest patient’s quality of life.
